Kim On the Issues
Public Safety

Kim knows that our police departments and district attorneys provide the bedrock for welcoming, vibrant, and prosperous communities. She is proud that Nassau County has been named the safest county in America several times, but knows that more needs to be done to ensure that we are all safe in our neighborhoods and on public transportation. Kim believes we need a holistic approach to public safety that includes:

-
Fully supporting and funding our police departments, court system, and district attorneys.
-
Promoting strong relationships between the police and the communities they serve.
-
Combating gun violence head on, acting on priorities like stopping one-time bulk-gun purchasing and making sure that Nassau County enforces red flag laws.
-
Addressing the root causes of crime, including poverty and lack of career opportunity for far too many New Yorkers.
-
Ensuring our criminal justice system isn’t creating a revolving door for repeat offenders and violent criminals, while preventing mass incarceration for non-violent misdemeanors.

Reproductive Rights
With reproductive rights under attack all across the country, Kim will be an unrelenting champion for women’s freedom.
-
NY ERA: Kim is joining millions of New Yorkers by organizing behind the New York Equal Rights Amendment– which expands New York state's constitution to prohibit discrimination based on a person's race, ethnicity, national origin, disability, and sex–including pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. For the first time, our constitution will explicitly prevent government actions that curtail a person’s reproductive autonomy or access to care. Kim urges all New Yorkers to flip their ballot over and vote yes on Prop 1.

-
Protecting and Strengthening Care: New York needs to be a national leader in the fight to protect women’s rights. In the State Senate, she’ll champion legislation that expands access to reproductive services and medication, empowers providers to offer comprehensive care, addresses pre-and post-natal needs, tackles maternal mortality issues, and guarantees rights for patients and providers.

-
Her Opponent’s Record: Kim's opponent, Jack Martins, has a 50% rating from Planned Parenthood because of his votes against reproductive freedom. That’s an “F”. Kim is running to give Long Island a real reproductive champion in the State Senate, and is proud to be endorsed by Planned Parenthood Empire State Votes PAC.

Investing in Public Education

Kim will always protect our children by standing up for public education and fully funding New York’s public schools.

-
Funding: Nassau is home to some of the best public school districts in the country because our communities invest in quality education to set our children up for success. In the State Senate, Kim will fight against any cuts to District 7 schools and make sure our kids and parents are getting the resources they deserve from Albany so we can keep our schools strong.

- Protecting Teachers: Kim understands that investing in schools means investing in teachers. She’s proud to support efforts that pay teachers what they deserve, fix Tier 6 retirement benefits, and support collective bargaining rights.

- Safe and Inclusive Classrooms: Particularly when hate is on the rise and social media is becoming more and more influential, schools need the resources necessary to create a safe and inclusive environment for all children. That’s why Kim supports measures that use education as a tool to combat discrimination and bigotry.

Keeping Guns Off Our Streets

In Albany, Kim will champion and enforce common sense gun safety legislation designed to keep our children and communities safer.
-
Gun Violence Legislation: Kim will work with gun violence prevention advocacy groups like Moms Demand Action & Everytown for Gun Safety, as well as the Brady Center to advance legislation that ensures safe storage, increases training requirements, funds violence interruption programs, tracks down ghost guns, and more to keep us safe. Kim is a proud Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate, and is endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety.

- Enforcing Red Flag Laws: Next door in Suffolk County, the police are effectively disarming potentially dangerous people in record numbers, while Nassau lags far behind. In the State Senate, Kim will look for ways to strengthen Nassau’s enforcement of Extreme Risk Protection Orders.

- Stopping Blakeman’s Militia: Kim will stand against County Executive Blakeman’s irresponsible attempt to build an armed militia of untrained vigilantes. She will always stand up for our law enforcement, and creating a safer and more secure Nassau County is a top priority. But empowering untrained citizens to use firearms in the event of an emergency does absolutely nothing to make our communities safer. In fact, it creates a more dangerous situation by introducing the threat of friendly fire incidents.

Lowering Taxes and Increasing Affordability

Nassau County residents already face some of the highest taxes in the state and the nation, which is why Kim will fight against tax hikes and to decrease the cost of living for our young people, working families, and seniors.
-
Congestion Pricing: Kim opposes New York’s congestion pricing plan because of the disproportionate financial burden placed on Long Islanders. She supports the current pause on congestion pricing. The truth is, the current proposal doesn’t provide nearly enough benefit compared to Nassau County’s financial investment, and focuses more on shifting traffic patterns than fixing transit. If congestion pricing does get restarted, Kim will make sure Long Island gets our fair share of the increased revenue.
-
SALT: The Trump era SALT repeal was a disaster for families on Long Island. In the State Senate, Kim will proudly stand with Congressman Tom Suozzi in his fight to restore SALT.
-
Small Businesses: Keeping our Main Streets lively and vibrant will be one of Kim’s top priorities. She will fight to lower taxes on small businesses and strengthen opportunities for entrepreneurship in Nassau so our communities can thrive again.

Protecting Our Environment

Kim’s “7 for 7” environmental platform is focused on 7 priorities for the 7th District to create a more sustainable, resilient, and eco-friendly future for Long Island.

-
Ending Gas Subsidies: Kim supports legislation that shifts new construction away from natural gas and promotes renewable energy sources.
-
Eliminating Waste: Kim supports legislation to reduce packaging waste by pairing companies with packaging reduction organizations to create packaging reduction and recycling plans for their products.
-
Investing in Climate Resilient Infrastructure: She will fight to create programs that build climate resilient infrastructure and advance climate vulnerability and adaptation plans.
-
Protecting our Drinking Water: Clean drinking water should be a fundamental right, so Kim will pursue policies that protect and preserve our drinking water while holding corporations accountable for contamination of our underground aquifers.

-
Affordable and Sustainable Living: Kim will help residents lower their energy bill through increased incentives for renewable energy, transitioning our grid away from expensive fossil fuels.
-
Enhanced Public Transit: She will fight to make public transit easier, cheaper, nicer, and more convenient by embracing emerging modes such as electronic on demand rideshare– enabling greater connectivity to LIRR.
-
Creating a Green Future: Kim believes in increased goals for green energy production, and creating more green union jobs for infrastructure projects like offshore wind. A green future depends on an educated public, so Kim supports legislation establishing learning expectations on the environment and climate change.

Combating Hatred and Discrimination
As a society, we need to actively call out and disavow the surge in antisemitism, Islamophobia, anti-Asian attacks, anti-LGBTQ+ hate and other forms of intolerance plaguing too many of our communities.

- According to statewide data, New York State saw a 90% increase in hate crimes between 2020 and 2022. This needs to be stopped.
-
Especially after the abhorrent terrorist attacks on October 7th, Jewish and Muslim New Yorkers have been at increased risk due to hate-fueled criminal activity. Throughout Kim’s career in education, she’s dedicated herself to promoting religious literacy and combating religious-based bigotry. Witnessing this troubling increase only strengthens her belief in the necessity for a significant overhaul in our anti-discrimination efforts.

-
Fighting Antisemitism: Kim is particularly disgusted by the rise and normalization of antisemitism here in New York. In recent months, we’ve seen flagrant acts of hatred in public spaces, undermining the safety of many Jewish people and young Jewish college students. This is unacceptable and has to stop. That’s why Kim has consistently spoken out against antisemitic acts in our communities. She knows that the rise in hate crimes demands a strong response from elected officials and law enforcement. Now more than ever, we must stand by our Jewish neighbors and proclaim that hate has no home here. In Albany Kim will lead efforts to enact bipartisan legislation to ensure universities enforce their codes of conduct and provide a safe learning environment for Jewish students and all community members as required by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
-
As a State Senator, she stands committed to fighting against hate-driven biases. Schools have an important role in cultivating attitudes of respectful curiosity about religious differences. She will advocate for comprehensive educational reforms that promote religious literacy, combat religious prejudice, and encourage dialogue to build bridges across communities, fighting against hate.
-
In addition to strengthened anti-bias and Holocaust education, Kim will advocate for increased public safety funding to protect houses of worship as well as strengthened hate crimes legislation to protect any citizens targeted because of their religion, race, sexual orientation or gender identity, or any other form of discrimination.

Freedom, Democracy & Voting Rights
At a time when democracy and fundamental freedoms are under attack, Kim will always stand for the right of every American to speak their mind, read what they want, love who they love, and control their own bodies.

- Expanding Democracy: Our right to vote is the foundation upon which our other rights rest. Kim is proud that New York has continued to make it easier to vote, with laws enabling early voting, expanding access to absentee and mail-in ballots, providing opportunities to fix errors on submitted ballots, and giving more time to register, among other efforts to modernize and improve our voting system. In Albany, Kim will work to expand same-day registration, ensure the use of verifiable paper ballots, protect election workers and polling places, and support legislation that promotes voter participation and engagement.
